UKAYRoC 2012 Challenge IS Open

The UKAYRoC 2012 Challenge IS open for registration! The Challenge for 2012 is to launch two raw hen’s eggs to a height of exactly 800ft in a rocket weighing no more than 650 grams, and return the eggs safely to ground within 43-47 seconds.

The winners prize for 2012 is to compete in the International Fly-Off against the American, French and Japanese winning teams at the Farnborough International Air show 2012 and an all expenses trip to NASA in Houston, TX USA.

International Rocketry Challenge Results

On the 24th June 2011, the UK Rocketry Challenge winners from Worksop College, sponosored by Chemring Group Plc, travelled to the Paris Airshow to fly their rocket against the winners of the US and French rocketry competitions in the 2011 International Rocketry Challenge. Despite equalling the US team’s altitude score with a height of 755ft, the UK team’s rocket took 55.17 seconds to return to earth, putting them into second place. The US team’s rocket won with a height of 745ft and duration of 43 seconds. The French team came third with a height of 784ft and duration of 50.67 seconds.

Worksop College Team 2 are the 2011 UK Champions

On the 10th May 2011, at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Worksop College Team 2 were declared the 2011 UKAYRoC Champions. The 2011 Challenge was to launch a raw hen’s egg to 750ft and return it safely to ground within 40-45 seconds using only a 15″ parachute.

2011 Winners Worksop College

Worksop College Team 2 successfully launched their rocket to 758ft in 44.60 seconds, scoring 8 points and winning £1,000 for their school. They also win an all-expenses paid trip to the Paris Air Show to fly their winning rocket against the winning US and French teams in the International Rocketry Challenge on the 24th June 2011.

Southend High School for Boys came a close second, flying their rocket to 760ft in 46.91 seconds, scoring 16 points and winning £500 for their school.

Dinnington Comprehensive School Team 1 came third with a score of 30 points. They won £250 for their school with a flight of 770ft in 48.38 seconds.

In fourth place was Worksop College Team 1 with a score of 64 points for reaching an altitude of 812ft in 45.75 seconds.

Abbeyfield School Team 2 scored 64 points and took fifth place by flying to 686 ft in 46.08 seconds.

NI students in UK Aerospace Youth Rocketry Challenge

St Dominic's Winning TeamPupils from Longstone Special School, St Dominic’s Grammar School for Girls and Victoria College competed in the Northern Ireland Schools Rocketry Challenge on 8th April 2011.

St Dominic’s Grammar School, Belfast, won the Northern Ireland regional final, but they face an anxious wait to see if they or the other Northern Ireland teams have qualified for the UK Finals in Leicestershire in May. The UK Finals event brings together the top 20 teams across the UK and qualification closes at noon on Friday 15th April 2011.
